Prepuce Restoring Movement Includes Doctors and the Circumcised

Aug 27, 2009 Karen Stephenson

Over the last thirty years men actively have searched for foreskin restoration services to obtain a natural penis. These men are finally at peace with their body image.

Men wanting foreskin restoration have many reasons for seeking these services. According to Jim Bigelow, Ph.D., some are aiming for improved sexual sensations while others have experienced life-long psychological circumcised trauma. For others, they want to regain a sense of control over their sex organs.

Foreskin restoration is usually attempted by adult men. There are teenagers who feel a sense of loss and want what others have, a natural penis. Most professionals agree that this procedure should never be done until a male has reached full sexual maturity.

Surgical Techniques

Surgical methods of foreskin restoration has sometimes been referred to as foreskin reconstruction. This method involves grafting skin and mucous membrane from another part of the body, typically the scrotum, onto the distal portion of the penis. There is another method that involves four stages in which the penile shaft is buried in the scrotum for a period of time. Surgical techniques have potential to produce unsatisfactory results and some patients experience serious complications.

Nonsurgical Techniques

Nonsurgical techniques of foreskin restoration are performed by stretching the skin and mucous membrane in order to cover the shaft of the penis. Tissue stretching has long been known to stimulate mitosis. Research by Stephanie Cordes, M.D., (Tissue Expanders, 1997), shows that regenerated human tissues have the attributes of the original tissue. Penile skin contains a muscle called the dartos and this muscle is also in the scrotum. The expansion rate may differ for some due to its presence. Although penis stretching does stimulate new growth, this procedure requires patience as it can take several years to complete.

The most common method of restoring the foreskin is to use tape. The tape can be attached to elastic straps or weights to apply tension to the skin, directing the skin over the glans. An example of a taping method is T-Tape, which was developed just over ten years ago with the idea of enabling restoration to take place quicker. Specialized foreskin restoration devices that grip the skin without tape are also commercially available.

The amount of tension produced by any method should be adjusted so that there is never pain or discomfort. There is a risk of damaging tissues from excessive tension or tension for a prolonged period of time. Web sites about foreskin restoration vary in their recommendations but no method should be attempted unless under the guidance of a doctor who supports restoration.

The National Organization of Restoring Men (NORM)

In 1989 a support group for men seeking penis restoration was formed by R. Wayne Griffiths and Tim Hammond. These two men met through NOCIRC (National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers).

The first official meeting was held in early 1990. In 1991 they named their group RECAP (RECover A Penis) but later adopted NORM, and from there this peer-facilitated support organization expanded worldwide.

In late 1992, the founders decided to keep activism and support separate issues and Tim founded the National Organization to Halt the Abuse and Routine Mutilation of Males (NOHARMM). In 1994, author Jim Bigelow, Ph.D., decided to incorporate UNCIRC under NORM so that it strengthened the network of these three major organizations.

Today, NORM has support groups in seven countries including Canada and in over 20 states. Their comprehensive web site provides not just links to their support groups, but also a library of information to assist men.
